Vaultwarden — Password Manager
Website: https://vault.deepinthesand.com
What it does
A Bitwarden-compatible password manager. End-to-end encrypted vault: passwords, secure notes, credit cards, identities, TOTP codes, file attachments, and password sharing in organizations.
Replaces
1Password, LastPass, Dashlane, Bitwarden cloud.
Vaultwarden uses its own login (not Authentik). Ammo will send you a temporary master password.
Change your master password immediately on first login
Vaultwarden is zero-knowledge — if you forget your master password, nobody, including Ammo, can recover your vault.
Change password
- Sign in at https://vault.deepinthesand.com.
- Avatar (top-right) → Account settings → Security → Master password.
- Pick a long passphrase (4+ random words). Write it down on paper and keep it somewhere safe until you've memorised it.
Enable 2FA
Account settings → Security → Two-step Login → Authenticator app.
Recommended authenticator apps (FOSS-friendly):
- Android: Aegis Authenticator — encrypted vault with encrypted backups. Install from F-Droid or Google Play.
- iOS: Raivo OTP or Tofu Authenticator. (Aegis is Android-only.)
- Desktop (optional, as a backup): KeePassXC can store TOTP codes alongside your passwords.
Save your recovery / backup codes
When you enable TOTP, you'll be shown one-time recovery codes. Save them somewhere safe — a printed copy in a drawer, or a Secure Note in your Vaultwarden vault. If you lose your phone and don't have these, you will be locked out and Ammo will need to manually reset your 2FA.
Apps
- Browser extensions: Bitwarden for Firefox/Chrome/Edge/Safari — in settings, change the server URL to
https://vault.deepinthesand.combefore logging in. - Desktop: Bitwarden desktop app for Win/Mac/Linux (same server-URL setting).
- Mobile: Bitwarden on Google Play / App Store (server-URL setting under the cog before login).
- CLI:
bw config server https://vault.deepinthesand.com.
Quick start
- Change master password, enable 2FA, save recovery code.
- Install the browser extension on every device.
- Import existing passwords (LastPass, Chrome, etc.) via Tools → Import data.
- Use the extension to autofill and to generate strong unique passwords for every site.
